One Recipient’s Story

Bets Cole is an artist, interpreting her view of the world through paint and canvas.

But she almost didn’t have that view.  Bets suffered from corneal blindness for more than 20 years, suffering pain, light-sensitivity, and increasingly cloudy vision.

Not only did her painting become more difficult, but it impacted the other key area of her life – her family.  She couldn’t bake brownies for a bake sale, or drive to pick up her children from school.

Help came through a transplant with a new cornea, donated by a generous family in a time of grief.

“It is amazing how blindness contributes to uncertainty and clear sight can boost one’s self-assurance.  I am grateful to go forward using this gift to make the most of my life."
