Supporting Donor Families
Providing compassionate and sensitive care to donor families, both at the time of donation and on a continuing basis, is an integral part of the donation process. The Lions Eye Bank of North Dakota provides support and resources to organ and tissue donor families for as long as they prefer. Our Transplant Coordinators are available to talk, answer questions, or provide resources such as bereavement materials or support group information.
An important component of the donor family services program is the facilitation of communication between donor families and recipients. Donor families are encouraged to reach out to their loved one’s recipients when they feel ready. To assist donor families in this process, LEBND provides them with a brochure entitled Writing to Transplant Recipients and Their Families. All correspondence is anonymous unless both the donor family and the recipient choose to have direct contact. The goal of any contact, whether anonymous or direct, is to provide the opportunity to connect in a manner that promotes growth and healing.
